E. T. the extra-terrestrial
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is an adventure game developed and published by Atari and released in 1982 for the Atari 2600. Based on the film of the same name and designed by Howard Scott Warshaw, the goal is to guide E.T. through various screens to collect three pieces of an interplanetary telephone that will allow him to contact his home planet.
E.T. is infamous for its rushed development time of five weeks and negative reception, often cited as a contributing factor to the video game crash of 1983. It is also famous for the "Atari video game burial" in Alamogordo, New Mexico, where unsold cartridges were buried in a landfill.
