Championship Soccer (Pele`s Soccer)
Championship Soccer is a soccer game released in 1982 for the Atari 2600 console.
Championship Soccer was the first soccer game for Atari 2600, had 4 players on each team, possessed a goal animation and could be played alone, against the computer, or with two players. Championship Soccer had Pelé as a poster boy, which is why the game is also known as Pelé's Soccer. You control 3 players who move in a triangle formation, shots are made automatically as players move, but it is also possible to shoot at any time you want.
In 1977, Pelé had already starred in an Atari TV commercial, in which he said he had abandoned soccer to play the video game. It was then that the company included his name in the game title, which had initially been released as Soccer and then Championship Soccer. Pelé's Soccer thus became one of the first games to be licensed with a celebrity's name.
The graphics are simple and the players (three on each side of the field) are represented by squares of different colors on the screen.
